St George’s Day Parade 21/04/24

Thornbury, on Sunday 21/04/24

A little late due to admin difficulties but the Cotswold Edge District have advised us that there will be a St George’s Day parade this year. The last one was held pre-covid at Woodhouse Park Activity Centre.

  1. All members are to meet from 13:30 in the Castle Court car park, Thornbury
  2. The parade column will form from 13:45 and begin at 14:30
  3. The parade will travel through High Street ending at the St Mary’s Shopping Centre at 15:00
  4. There will be a ceremony where all sections renew their Promise and possible presentation of Awards
  5. At approximately 15:30 the parade will be dismissed, some Groups are going on to the Mundy playing fields, our group will not be participating in this.

As this is last minute, some of our leaders are unable to attend and we may not have a full head count until the end of this week, so we must insist all parents to stay with their young people from beginning to end. This will be reviewed on the day.

It’s not compulsory however St George is the Patron Saint of Scouting. Baden Powell our founder said in his book ‘Scouting for Boys’ “Prepared and alert a Scout follows the lead of our Patron Saint George and his spirited steed”. To Baden Powell, St George epitomised the qualities of selflessness and courage which he saw as being among the aims of Scouting.

All participants will receive a badge for the event and it will be ticked off by each section leader as an activity towards the participants Challenge badges.
